Our Research Method

    How We Research Pillows

We don't sleep-test pillows, and we don't claim to. Every listing on The Pillow Guru is built from manufacturer specifications, materials and certifications, sleep-trial and warranty terms, verified owner feedback, and which retailers deliver to your country.

    What We Look At

    Manufacturer specifications

Shape, dimensions, loft, fill, firmness and cover fabric, taken from the brand's own product pages and documentation.

    Materials & certifications

We check for independent certifications such as CertiPUR-US (foam), OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (textiles) and GOLS/GOTS (organic latex and cotton).

    Trial, returns & warranty

Trial length, whether opened pillows can be returned, who pays return shipping, and warranty length. A long trial lowers your risk.

    Verified owner feedback

We look for consistent patterns across verified buyer reviews — flattening, heat, smell, sizing — rather than individual star ratings.

    Availability by country

We check which retailers deliver to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Europe and Singapore, so our links work where you live.

    How We Rate

Ratings on this site are research scores across six areas. They help you compare pillows on paper; they are not lab or sleep-test results.

    What Research Can't Tell You

Pillow comfort is personal. Shoulder width, mattress firmness and sleep position all change which loft feels right, and no spec sheet can predict that perfectly. That's why we show the sleep trial for every pillow: it's the only reliable way to find out whether a pillow suits you.

If you have ongoing neck or shoulder pain, speak to a doctor or physiotherapist. A pillow can help with comfort, but it isn't a medical treatment.

    Independence & How We Earn

    • We earn affiliate commissions on some links, and show Google AdSense ads.
    • Brands can't pay to be listed or to change what we write.
    • We list highlights and downsides for every pillow.
    • We remove deals that stop working and update listings when products change.
